Microsoft will reveal an official Kinect software development kit (SDK) and driver support for Windows-based PCs soon, a new report has claimed.

According to WinRumours, Microsoft will unveil driver support and an SDK "in the coming months", and will allow third-party developers to create Kinect titles when the Xbox 360 add-on is plugged into a PC.

The rumour backs up comments from none other than Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO. When asked about official support for Kinect use with PCs at the Consumer Electronics Show, he replied: "We'll support that in a formal way in the right time."

Microsoft is expected to bring gesture-based control to its next PC operating system, Windows 8.

Kinect for PC with Microsoft's official stamp is sure to excite PC gamers. The motion-sensing device's potential on the platform has been showcased in countless hacking videos since November. Digital Foundry's " Kinect Hacking: The Story So Far" is a great place to begin.

Eurogamer has asked Microsoft for comment.

Tonight marks the World Premiere of Sonic 2 HD! For the first time since the project’s technical demonstration in 2008, the curtain has been pulled away to let the world see what Team S2HD has been building up. We hope this answers many of the questions long-time fans of the project have had, and that everyone is just as excited as we are for what’s to come.

For those who haven’t seen S2HD since the Tech Demo, you’ll notice that just about everything has been rebuilt from the ground up. What isn’t as obvious is that everything behind the scenes was scrapped as well: shortly after the Tech Demo’s release, the engine used was thrown away in favor of an even more accurate engine in the works–one capable of far more expansion than was originally imagined. In the year that followed the art direction also saw massive changes, and, from late spring of 2010, the finalized art style brought about the last wave of changes to everything that had been created previously. All of Sonic’s movement frames were redone. All the Badniks were scrapped and redesigned. Many of the level art assets underwent the same treatment. The result of these changes is reflected in what you now see.

By the fans, for the fans, spread the word: the alpha release of Sonic 2 HD will arrive Q1 2011!

Jump to the DCemu Forums to see the teaser video!

There was a bit of negative feedback in the SonicRetro forums over the similarity of the teaser video with Sega's marketing ploy back when Project Needlemouse was announced as Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Personally I can't wait for this homebrewed high definition version of one of the greatest Sonic games ever made. Once again Sonic fans seem to be trumping Sega in quality Sonic games. The physics already blow away Sonic 4's floaty jumps and sticky walls.

Keep checking SonicRetro, it's hosted Sonic 2 HD blog and of course here at DCEmu for further updates on this wonderful project.

PSP - PSP Commercial News

The industry will finally find out what form the PSP2 will take at a press event in Tokyo on January 27th, trade sources have confirmed to MCV.

Claims emerging this morning about an impending reveal for the long-rumoured PSP2 are true.

Publishers were informed late last year of the plans, with some of Sony's biggest parties already at work on titles for the high-specced device.

The date of the reveal itself is just the beginning, however.

This Friday's copy of MCV magazine has some exclusive industry insight - some of which will come as a huge surprise. Check back for the full story on MCVuk.com.
