Anyone who's been wanting to make a game for the Oculus Rift headset, but hemmed and hawed during the Kickstarter run, now has a second chance. Oculus has kicked off its own pre-order campaign that offers the VR developer kit at the same $300 that it cost for the more proactive among us, or $345 for those beyond US borders. As an added incentive, the first 1,000 who pull the trigger still get a copy ofDoom 3: BFG Edition to show what the Oculus Rift can do. Twiddling your thumbs will have cost at least a month -- these new kits won't ship until January -- but the pre-order still means a head start over competing developers that haven't yet seen the virtual light.

Cable companies look to stream triple-A titles from publishers such as EA straight to TV
US cable firms are plotting a push on the games industry by streaming titles directly to televisions, according to a report.
People “with knowledge of the matter” toldBloomberg that Time Warner Cable and Verizon Communications were looking to take on the home console market through cloud technology.
Trials for web-based game streaming will allegedly start later this year to allow carriers time to test the tech before deployment in early 2013.
Other firms meanwhile are said to be aiming for a 2014 rollout of cloud gaming services direct to televisions.
If true, the move would mean carriers could offer the service to their almost 50 million digital TV subscribers.

September 27th, 2012, 01:18 Posted By: wraggster
Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced the latest iteration of highly acclaimed soccer game, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2013, is now available at retail stores nationwide.
For this year's game, the development team went back to the origins of the game that pioneered the genre, by working directly with fans of the franchise to deliver a game that gives total freedom of control back to the players. This full control, coupled with enhanced artificial intelligence and life-like player animations makes PES 2013 the most realistic soccer game on the market.
"Soccer is all about how the player interacts with the ball, from the first touch, to dribbling, passing and all of the moves associated with playing," says Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "What PES 2013 is giving players is complete control to impact their game how they'd like, including all of those key elements I just referred to. Recreating that experience of an authentic soccer game and giving that freedom back to the players is paramount in the development of PES 2013."
Three key elements form the basis of Pro Evolution Soccer 2013's innovations, with all new additions falling within the fields of Pro Evolution Soccer, which include FullControl, Player ID, and ProActive AI.
The first element, FullControl (PES FC) offers a level of control that has never before been used in a soccer game. The features of PES FC include:
• Total Freedom of Control: Pro Evolution Soccer introduced the concept of freedom of movement. The new 'PES FC' in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 goes further with total freedom over ball control.
• Dynamic First Touch: Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 introduces subtle ways to receive the ball, from traps, gently lifting it past an attacker to run on to or a variety of other moves. First touch is everything and players can trap the ball using the R2 button, killing the speed of a well-hit pass and bringing it instantly under control, or using the momentum of the pass to turn a defender.
• Full Manual Shooting and Full Manual Passing: Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 offers fully manual passing and for the first time ever, manual shooting, allowing users to determine the height and power of each. Long low passes can be sent skimming across the pitch, while shooting the user has total control over where the shot is placed. Skill and precision are needed to master these, but passes can be made into open areas, allowing lone strikers to thrive, while offering an unrivalled variety in ways to score.
• Dribbling: The speed with which a player moves with the ball has been slowed in line with real matches, but using R2 allows players to add various styles to their close control. Players can vary the speed of their dribbling, and cushion the ball as they move freely within a 360-degree circle. The new system allows players to knock a ball past a player and collect it, nutmeg them, or hold up play by shielding the ball as team mates find space and make runs.
• Full Manual One-Two: Active one-two passes can be made, with the second player being moved in any direction), facilitating various tactical movements.
• Response Defending: Countering the attacking options the new dribbling system offers, is a beautifully-balanced defense system. Players can use R2 and X to slow an attack, with a double-tap of the X button prompting a perfectly-timed challenge. Full 360-degree control means that players can check runs and steal the ball from a parallel position, while the individuality element will see world renowned defenders using aerial dominance of physicality to win the ball.
• Goalkeepers: Even the game's keepers benefit from more control, while their distribution is more precise thanks to the addition of a power gauge when they throw the ball, creating opportunities for new, quicker counter attacks.
The second key element of Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is the Player ID, which focuses on the individual characteristics and movements that each player boasts. The components of the Player ID include:
• Player Individuality: The very best players in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 will be instantly recognizable via signature attributes, skills and tricks that bring them to life. The way they run, turn, trap and move the ball, shape to shoot and even celebrate will be noticeably different during play.
• Individuality to Goalkeepers: Goal keeping has been totally invigorated via new animations and play styles. New varieties of saves and reactions have been added to ensure the game's 'keepers are in line with the efforts of real shot stoppers. This level of realism also extends to the game's top-rated goal keepers, with their moves to close attacks down, fling themselves to tip a shot past the post, and in-goal acrobatics benefiting from all new animations and AI.
The third element is the ProActive AI, which unites the control and realism, with players that will respond and find space as befits those at the top of their game.
• Balance of Play: The development team has worked closely with the Pro Evolution Soccer fan base to eradicate any illogical elements to the way players move and run in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013, with the 'ProActive AI' system enhancing the speed and balance, resulting in a more realistic game experience.
• Enhanced Goalkeepers: Improvements to the goal keepers was voted the key advancement soccer fans wanted to see in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013, and the team has worked hard with real life goalkeepers to ensure the AI decision process has been vastly improved. Keepers now respond with better reactions, clear their lines more effectively and push the ball safely out of play rather than into dangerous areas.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is rated "E" for Everyone by the ESRB and is priced at $59.99 for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360®.
PES 2013 for PlayStation®2, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), Nintendo 3DS™, and Nintendo Wii™ will be available later this fall.

Judge Flavio Peren of Mato Grosso do Sul state in Brazil has ordered the arrest of the President of Google Brazil, as well as the 24-hour shutdown of Google and Youtube for not removing videos attacking a mayoral candidate. Google is appealing, but has recently also faced ordered fines of $500K/day in Parana and the ordered arrest of another executive in Paraiba in similar cases."Early reports indicated that the judge also ordered the arrest of the Google Brazil President, but the story when this was written is that the police haven't received any such order (and an earlier such order was overuled recently). The video is in violation of their pre-election laws.

In Maestia – Rise of Keledus, the inhabitants of Misilen began celebrating the Oktoberfest today. Besides rustic Bavarian features, the free-to-play fantasy MMORPG also introduces two updates: a new armor set in the Lucky Spin and an expanded raid mode.
First established in Munich in 1810 and in Maestia – Rise of Keledus in 2012, the Oktoberfest is just beginning in Misilen. Ale-benches in the capital Superion and other decorative items such as garlands and tankards make for a hearty, festive mood. Moreover, classic costume sets await in the Maestia shop, offering characters a chance to not only dress appropriately, but also gain valuable bonuses for several stats. On top of that, a special Oktoberfest potion adds life and magic points.
Players now also have a chance to win the new Grim Reaper armor set in the Lucky Spin. Depending on the amount of armor pieces received, players gain different bonuses for their critical and magic hits. The complete set (six pieces) also grants players the Bone Armor visual effect. The Dragon's Breath set and dragon mount are available as before.
The raid mode has also been updated. In addition to the familiar twelve-player raids, Maestia – Rise of Keledus now includes a raid mode for six participants. As usual, they gain access to the raid through a crystal – obtainable in quests and the premium shop – and valuable rewards await those who defeat the boss Taros. The difficulty level has been optimized for smaller groups.

Created to spark conversations about videogames outside of traditional channels and launched at GameCity6, the GameCity Prize received international recognition, with Markus ‘Notch’ Persson’s runaway success Minecraft grabbing the inaugural gong.

• Bastion - Supergiant Games

• Contre Jour - Chilingo
• Dark Souls - From Software
• DayZ - Dean “Rocket” Hall

GameCity Director and Prize creator Iain Simons said, “The amazing response from the mainstream media and creative communities last year proved that there was a real gap in the cultural calendar for a Prize like this. As with everything GameCity does, we try and engage as many people as possible in the conversation about videogames.
Creating the public consultation period gave fans of titles the chance to have their voice heard and this is reflected in the incredibly diverse collection of titles in our longlist.”

In these days where we all own a Mobile Phone, a PC, A Laptop, a Tablet and maybe your thinking of owning a Raspberry PI or the soon to be released Ouya Console. What would you say if there was a joypad released that also doubled as a keyboard which worked on everyone one of them.
Well that dream has come true with the guys over at iControlpad who have announced their iControlpad 2 which is an Open Source Joypad which will work on any device with bluetooth or USB connections.

Virgin Media is counting down the days as it gears up to reveal an all new mobile game ‘Superfluid’, as the developers head towards the critical final stages of the project, bringing to life their new game concept in just 100 days. The team from Essex University won Virgin Media’s 100 Day Game Project, run in association Eurogamer and The University of Abertay in Dundee, championing the talent of young developers in the UK.
With the demand for app developers increasing rapidly, the 100 Day Project was set-up by Virgin Media to seek out raw UK talent and show support to the UK computer games industry. With over 50,000 visitors expected to arrive over four days at the Eurogamer Expo this will be the first opportunity for the public try out the new game.
Surface Tension Studios has been working day and night to develop their concept into a reality, shortly after the team completed their Computer Science degrees at Essex University earlier this year. Throughout their exciting development journey they’ve had support from some of the industries major games development gurus such as Michael Nemo (Codemasters) and Andrew Eades (Relentless Software) who has offered the team an internship to work across their exciting new range of mobile games.
Andrew Eades, CEO of Relentless Software said: "It's really important to nurture the UK’s passion for games and provide opportunities to work in this great industry. We've recently set up a mobile division which plans to launch six games a year and we need a lot of people to make those games a happen, so an internship to such a talented team is our way of saying 'Relentless loves people that love making games’.”
The new game ‘Superfluid’ has been developed to work across Android and Apple devices and will launch in October. The puzzle-based platform game uses tilt-based controls for navigation through the levels as the character changes into three different states, solid, liquid and gas. The game’s narrative follows ‘Superfluid’s’ attempts to escape from its creators ‘Dynosplice’, facing a variety of puzzles and challenges to navigate through each level, and get past enemies, including Diabolic Jelly and Stalligmite. Even more baddies are already in the pipeline to be introduced such as Mirror Mags and Ferro-Fluid which have already proved popular though an online public vote.
With the game almost complete, the team will travel to the Eurogamer Expo to ask visitors to comment on the design, game play and characters before polishing off the final levels live on the Virgin Media stand.
Dave Pearson, Surface Tension Studios said: “This has been an incredible opportunity for us and has been a massive challenge, but we’re really pleased with how far the game has come surpassing all of our expectations in terms of what we’ve been able to achieve in just 100 days.
“Working in the games industry is all the team has wanted to do and we’re really excited to finally being able to showcase ‘Superfluid’ at one of the biggest gaming exhibitions in the world. That aside, we’re even more thrilled to be attending the Expo to satisfy our own gaming needs as we’ve not had much time for that recently.”
Luke Southern, head of sponsorship at Virgin Media, said: “We are so proud of the team’s achievement, we set-out to find the new talent in the industry and we found a team that has far exceeded expectations. We’re delighted to have partnered with such great companies who have shown nothing but admiration and support for the work the guys have been doing and who share the belief that the UK games industry is one of the best in the world. We wish Dave and the team every success in the future!”
Virgin Media is also showcasing the hottest games, with the fastest broadband at Eurogamer this year. The company is partnering with some of the top games publishers with three exciting gaming titles, FIFA 13, GRID 2and Mists of Pandaria, to give visitors to the show the opportunity to try out the latest games using its superfast broadband with speeds of up to 100Mb.
Following their sell-out success of previous years, BAFTA's Career Surgeries are back at Eurogamer Expo at Earls Court on the afternoons of Thu Sep 27, Fri Sep 28 and Sat Sep 29, offering an unmissable chance to talk directly to major figures in the UK games industry, details can be found at [BAFTA website] or visit the Virgin Media stand.
