Im the first to admit I let the site and network down, but slowly but surely im going to rebuild this as the network for homebrew and emulation and hacking, theres a long road to go, nothing happens over night so first off I needed to sort the sites out and condense them to a clear and manageable state, then the forums have also been reduced and again ads removed etc.
Soon I will begin newsposting and getting myself back into my hobby of over 15 years, doing this site work has started to give me the buzz I lost a long while back and the more I do the more I will enjoy it, without going overboard.
I look forward to bringing you a much better DCEmu than you've seen for a while
thanks to anyone still visiting

I`ve never known a year like it for the loss of celebrities and today another one has died, I was worried the other day when I heard Carrie Fisher had, had a Cardiac arrest on a flight over from the UK to Los Angeles and today our worst nightmare had come true, a star of the most iconic films of all time has died and it is even worse when the new films are coming out this and next year.
Rest in Peace Carrie Fisher

On behalf of DCEmu, I bid all users and visitors a merry Christmas. I hope you've all have a great time today taking time off work, unwrapping the presents and enjoying a great Christmas dinner. Please don't go overboard with the drinking though!
2016 has been an eventful year, with the likes of the PS4 Pro/Slim and Xbox One S making their debut, the Nintendo unveiling their interesting Switch console and various VR headsets making their appearances, to name a few. There was the Pokemon Go craze that went on for a while and following from that the recent release of Pokemon Sun and Moon. In terms of homebrewing, there was the announcement of a possible firmware exploit on the PS4 on version 4.01 and releases of Henkaku/taiHenkaku for PS Vita. All that mentioned, let's see what next year will have for us. If there's anything of this year gaming-wise that ought to get a mention, then please...

Todays Video Game Consoles are amazing, the main 2 are the Playstation 4 or PS4 to quote its smaller name, the Xbox One which is quite confusing when you look back and its actually the 3rd Xbox but Microsoft are known for quirky numbering, just look at the Xbox 360 which is actually the Xbox 2. The 3rd placed console is the Nintendo WiiU, which is more or less a Wii mk2 with a fancy tablet controller.
Maybe the best solution is to have someone make a full on Android Games Console with joypads that are chargeable and as good as say todays PS3 or PS4 controllers, the Android seems the safest bet with regards to running emulators and maybe homebrew and then theres the programs such as Mobdro, Showbox, Movie HD and many more which enable you to watch Movies and Television programs from around the world, the legalities depend on which country you are in, the rise of live e-sports matches for today - click here to bet is massive, I have often watched my son watching for hours players on StarCraft 2, not something I would do but in this day of social media with sites like Facebook etc it all changes on a monthly basis.
Nowadays the big players in video gaming have recognised that emulation of their older consoles pays dividends, the ability to play PSP, PS1 and PS2 games on a PS4, Xbox Original and Xbox 360 on the Xbox One and then the WiiU or even the Wii which can play a massive amount of games from consoles such as the Nintendo Entertainment System (Nes), Nintendo 64, Snes, Megadrive, Gameboy, NeoGeo and many more.
So now Emulation and that also includes Homebrew has a barrier, the makers of the Video Games Consoles don't want you running code not meant to be ran on their consoles and they even offer their own emulation these days, which they make a nice profit off, thank you very much .
So the fact that they don't want you running code, make money off emulation in their own way and the killer that in order to play the latest games they can update the firmwares on the respective consoles make things even harder for the community.
Another problem these days is that coders of emulators and you cant fault them, are selling their emulators on the Apple Store and Android Store, both mobile phone operating systems have an amount of phone owners in their hundreds of millions so any good coder if they can get an emulator for systems such as Nintendo DS, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Nintendo Wii, Amiga 500, NeoGeo Pocket and the list is endless but any of them working well and people will pay decent money to be able to experience games of yesteryear that frankly slaughter most of todays games that are just built to make you pay more all the time.
So with all of this in mind, coding homebrew and emulators for the older consoles that have already been hacked seems a safe bet, the Nintendo 3DS is the king of Homebrew at this time and the Nintendo Wii is still awesome for emulators and homebrew, for me I still love the PSP it has literally hundreds of emulators and homebrew and the ability to play PS1 and Videos makes it a king amongst consoles.
Whatever the future is, ill be watching and DCEmu will rise from the ashes.

The site known as DCEmu UK has had a rough few years and mostly my doing, trying to do too much rather than just focus on emulation and homebrew, too many ads, too many sites and sadly for me not coping at all well with the loss via cancer of a family member so very close to me.
However things will change, first off I need to make dcemu lean again and that means massively condensing sites into just a few, same with forums.
I also need to try and make the site and forums mobile friendly, which means going into the unknown a bit for me as we use a clever system that uses vbulletin to post our news.
I need to make sure that the sites/forums have more social integration, facebook, twitter etc etc
Im also going to rebrand DCEmu and get back to newsposting daily but without encroaching too much on my real life.
So a new Name for DCEmu, a slimline site featuring all the news you want but only for homebrew, emulation and hacking, little to no ads bar the ones that pay for the server, a cleansing of the forums, a new look forum.
It will all happen as soon as I can do it.

A lot of people can bake a cake. Sort of. Most of us can bake a cake if we have a cake mix. Making a cake from scratch is a different proposition. Sure, you know it is possible, but in real life, most of us just get a box of cake mix. The Raspberry Pi isn’t a cake (or even a pie), but you could make the same observation about it. You know the Raspberry Pi is just an ARM computer, you could program it without running an available operating system, but realistically you won’t. This is what makes it fun to watch those that are taking on this challenge.
[Deater] is writing his own Pi operating system and he faced a daunting problem: keyboard input. Usually, you plug a USB keyboard into the Pi (or a hub connected to the Pi). But this only works because of the Linux USB stack and drivers exist. That’s a lot of code to get working just to get simple keyboard input working for testing and debugging. That’s why [Deater] created a PS/2 keyboard interface for the Pi.
Even if you aren’t writing your own OS, you might find it useful to use a PS/2 keyboard to free up a USB port, or maybe you want to connect that beautiful Model-M keyboard without a USB adapter. The PS/2 keyboard uses a relatively simple clock and data protocol that is well-understood. The only real issue is converting the 5V PS/2 signals to 3.3V for the Pi (and vice versa, of course).

A well organized approach to a project is a delight to see. [Pavel Gesyuk] takes just that approach with the experiments on his blog. Experiment 13 is a multi-part series using a Raspberry Pi as the heart of a weather station. [Pavel] is looking at wind speed and direction, and temperature measurement, plus solar power for the station. One of his videos, there are many, is after the break.
The anemometer and direction sensors are stock units wired to a Raspberry Pi A+ using an analog to digital daughter board. The data from the temperature sensor is acquired using I2C. During one part of the experiment he uses an EDIMAX WiFi adapter for collecting the data.
Python is [Pavel’s’ language of choice for development and freely shares his codefor others to see. The code collects the data and displays it on a monitor connected to the Pi. The experiment also attempts to use solar power to charge batteries so the station is not dependent on mains power.
The mechanical assembly shows attention to detail commensurate with his project presentation and we respect how well organized the work is.

Rolling your own synthesizer is no small feat, which is what [Thomas] has taken on with his project “Nerdsynth”. [Thomas] has an impressive amount of data on his site covering the overall design and progress of the project, but that isn’t what piqued our interest. [Thomas] has an on-board TFT display to navigate the versatile Nerdsynth’s menu but he wanted to add video output to do some video sequencing. After some investigation and poking around the available options he decided to tackle yet another sub-project (textbook scope-creep).
[Thomas] chose to do to some bare metal programming on the Pi Zero to use it as a video cardfor video output. By following a tutorial from Valversand modifying an SPI driver from Microelecroniki he was able to clone the video on an external monitor. This is a step in the right direction and we’ll have to keep an eye on his site for updates about video sequencing on the external display.

The Oculus Rift is too expensive and lacking in must-have games, UK stores have warned.
But VR is an exciting new area for the global games market and, in time, Oculus Rift could still emerge as the market leader.
MCV contacted leading games stores following the news that the first Oculus Rift units would arrive at the end of March for £500 - including an Xbox One controller and two games: EVE Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale.
“It’s too expensive. We were expecting £299, maximum,” said one senior buyer at a leading High Street chain.
“And where are the games? The concept is exciting but no-one has shown a game that works.”
Another chain wouldn’t comment because it didn’t want to discuss products that weren’t easily accessible by the vast majority of gamers. Another commentator believes that it was ‘weird’ to launch the Rift without the Oculus Touch controller.
However, stores remain optimistic about the prospects of VR.
“It is very exciting and new,” said another games boss. “PlayStation VR is in the strongest position, as it has the momentum of the PS4 and a promising line-up.
“But Oculus Rift, given a bit of time, could be the premium VR experience of choice.”

The headline news from this year’s GfK report is this: There were fewer games sold last year, there were fewer consoles sold last year, but accessory sales continue to rise.
Yet there are some significant victories to be found in the data from 2015, and those triumphs are largely centred around anything to do with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The combined install base for these machines – according to retail reports – now sits at 5.5 million. GfK Entertainment’s data shows that over £700 million was generated from physical software sales on both of Sony and Microsoft’s latest platforms. That’s over 75 per cent of all physical game revenue from last year.
If you look at the Top 50 on page nine, you’ll notice that almost every single game was
a PS4 or Xbox One title. The single exception being Mario Kart 8 on Wii U (there were no 3DS, Vita or PC games in the Top 50). And in terms of accessories, nine of the Top Ten were for PS4 or Xbox One.
PS4 was the dominant platform of the year once again, with the highest software and hardware sales. However, Microsoft did have the largest number of exclusive games in the charts with seven, whereas Sony just had two.
In terms of new IP, it was a relatively poor 2015. Only three new IPs released last year made the Top 50: Evolve from 2K Games, Bandai Namco’s Project CARS and Warner Bros’ Dying Light.
Speaking of Warner Bros, the company has not just broken into Top Five physical publishers, but it is now in the Top Three. There were eight Warner Bros-published games in the Top 50 (and four LEGO games): Batman: Arkham Knight (No.6), LEGO Jurassic World (No.10), Dying Light (No.19), LEGO Dimensions (No.25), Mortal Kombat X (No.26), LEGO Batman III: Beyond Gotham (No.31), LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (No.38) and Mad Max (No.45).
As a result of fewer releases, Ubisoft, Nintendo and Sony slipped down the publisher rankings. However, all three have significantly stronger release slates for 2016, so they’re likely to be back up amongst the leaders this year.
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 software sales continue to tumble. PS3 software revenue, for instance, was down 61 per cent versus 2014. Although that’s not quite so severe when you consider that PS3 software sales also dropped 59 per cent between 2013 and 2014.
It will be interesting to see what impact backwards compatibility on Xbox One might have on Xbox 360 software sales over the next year.
Kids titles still perform strongly on previous generation machines, particularly titles such as Minecraft, the LEGO games and toys-to-life products. In fact, 55 per cent of Disney Infinity 3.0, Skylanders SuperChargers and LEGO Dimensions sales were made on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.

With a lack of new releases hitting shelves, Call of Duty once again retains the top spot in the UK All Formats chart.
Activision’s shooter manages with a mere 24 per cent drop in sales week-on-week. This is the sixth time in a row that Black Ops III has been at the No.1, the longest time in pole position since FIFA 15 in 2014. That game also managed six weeks on top.
2016’s edition of EA’s football title slips to third place as sales dip 45 per cent, while Grand Theft Auto V shoots two places up to No.2 with a mere 16 per cent sales dip week-on-week. This is the highest rank Rockstar’s title has reached since Week 34 2015.
Battlefront falls one place to No.4 with a 45 per cent sales decline, ahead of Rainbow Six: Siege which rises up one position to fifth place.
In sixth place is Square Enix’s Just Cause 3, which rose two positions over the course of the week. Meanwhile, WWE 2K16 sales drop 30 per cent but remains sold at No.7.
Below is the All Formats Top Ten for the week ending January 16th:
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Activision Blizzard
2. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
3. FIFA 16, EA
4. Star Wars Battlefront, EA
5. Rainbow Six: Siege, Ubisoft
6. Just Cause 3, Square Enix
7. WWE 2K16, 2K Games
8. Fallout 4, Bethesda
9. LEGO Jurassic World, Warner Bros
10. Minecraft: Xbox Edition, Microsoft

What games sold the most copies in 2015? Exactly the titles you'd expect: the latest entries in long-running franchises like Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Madden NFL 16 and Fallout 4. It's not surprising -- sequels have the springboard advantage of an existing fanbase -- but disappointing: not a single new IP shows up on the NPD's top 10 best selling games list for last year.
Annual 2015 Top 10 Games (New Physical Retail only; across all platforms incl. PC)
Call of Duty: Black Ops III (XBO, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)**
Madden NFL 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)**
Fallout 4 (PS4, XBO, PC)**
Star Wars Battlefront 2015 (XBO, PS4, PC)**
Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)**
NBA 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)**
Minecraft (360, XBO, PS3, PS4)
Mortal Kombat X (PS4, XBO)**
FIFA 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)**
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (XBO, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)**
**(includes CE, GOTY editions, bundles, etc. but not those bundled with hardware)
That said, this breakdown still makes a lot of sense. The new Star Wars: Battlefront title was sure to sell droves in the wake of the franchise's new feature film and Grand Theft Auto V (the 5th best selling game of the year, continentally) was one of the most anticipated titles of this console generation. NBA 2K16, Minecraft, Mortal Kombat X, FIFA 16 and last year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare rounded out the last five top-sellers for the year.
As far as new and unique titles go, last year's NPD best sellers were far more interesting, including not only two new IPs (Watch Dogs and Destiny), but a console-exclusive title as well (Super Smash Bros). Still, if you missed out on 2015's most popular games, give them a shot -- with a wide mix of popular franchise games, there was something for everyone in 2015.
Update: Activision also announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the number one selling videogame worldwide, as the CoD franchise has topped 250 million units combined.

UK theme park Alton Towers has announced a new roller coaster that has its passengers wearing a virtual reality headset.
Simulation rides have been around for yonks, but Galactica will be the first to combine an actual rollercoaster with a virtual reality experience. Passengers will lay face down and experience a simulated trip across many galaxies, while enduring forces of up to 3.5gs.
It will use Samsung Gear VR headsets. The shoulder straps are designed in a such a way so as to limit head movement, meaning the motion-tracking is focused exclusively on the ride itself.
The ride, which lasts for three minutes, is due to open in April. It can hold 28 passengers at once (and 1,500 per hour) and runs for a length of 840m. The biggest drop is 20m and its maximum speed 47mph.
A non-VR version of the ride will also be offered.
It’s the first new ride announced by Alton Towers since one of its ride, the Smiler, crashed in June, leading to two women having their legs amputated. 14 others were also injured. Attendance at the park has been down since and it maintains that jobs remain at risk. It intends to close on some quiet mid-week days throughout 2016.

Virtual reality is almost upon us now, and research firm SuperData reckons that the market for the new tech will reach $5.1bn (£3.5bn) by the end of the year.
That’s according to the company’s ‘Virtual Reality Market Brief’, which also predicts that the install base of VR in 2016 would be 55.8m consumers globally.
In its report, the firm also says mobile will drive adoption of VR, with consumers experimenting with smartphone virtual reality – such as Samsung’s Gear VR – before forking out for a more expensive VR headset.
This low barrier to entry will allow for the tech to reach 71 per cent of the consumer market next year.
SuperData also breaks down where the $5.1bn will be coming from.
The company predicts that Europe will be the biggest VR market, representing $1.9bn (£1.3bn), with North America contributing $1.5bn (£1bn). Meanwhile Asia’s VR sector is expected to reach $1.1bn (£751m), with the rest of the world splashing $0.6bn (£410m) on virtual reality this year.
In addition, SuperData’s research says that 18 to 54 year-olds would be willing to spend around $280 (£191) on VR hardware.
This report comes on the day that pre-orders open for Oculus’ Rift headset.

Things continue to look exceptionally bleak for the Japanese console games market, according to data from Famitsu.
In 2015 the sector’s games market generated ¥321bn, a 13 per cent decline year-on-year. Meanwhile, software sales dropped 16 per cent to ¥191bn, and console sales dipped to ¥130bn – a 8.5 per cent drop off.
The 13 per cent drop to the overall sector is the lowest point the market has fallen to in 26 years – dipping below 1989’s ¥358bn, and just ahead of 1988’s ¥319bn (thanks NeoGAF). Last year, the market dropped to its lowest point since 1990.
Of course, this data is purely physical and doesn’t take into account the digital data. And while boxed games still account for most of the console market, Japan’s mobile market is booming and the value of that is not represented in these figures.
The best performing title of the year was Capcom’s Monster Hunter X which shifted 2.4m units since its launch in November 2015. It has quite the lead on second place, new entries in Level 5’s blockbuster Yokai Watch series. Those titles sold 2m units between them.
Of the Top Ten bestselling games of the year, eight of them were on 3DS. It should come as no surprise then that the 3DS was the best-performing hardware in Japan for 2015.
2,189,900 3DS units were sold, including the vanilla 3DS, 3DS LL, New 3DS and New 3DS LL. The second best-performing hardware was the PlayStation 4, which shifted 1.2m units, while the PlayStation Vita sold 959,342 units (including the Vita TV). Neither have any games in the Top Ten.
The other two games in the Top Ten were Wii U titles - Splatoon and Super Mario Maker. That hardware sold 820,304 units in 2015.
Below is the software Top Ten for 2015 in Japan:
1. Monster Hunter X (Capcom) 3DS – 2,441,977

Regardless of the fact that the Oculus Rift pre-orders sold out in just 14 minutes, a number of people have pointed out that the VR headset’s price tag is much higher than what Oculus founder Palmer Lucky said it would be.
The price and availability of the Rift was announced on Wednesday 6th January. In the UK, it will set you back £499 and it costs gamers $599 in the US.
Despite the fact that this price covers the headset, a sensor, a remote, cables, Xbox controller and two games, many have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment, with some saying the price has made them changed their mind about getting one.
