A rising number of games publishers and developers are offering help to YouTube users affected by a sudden and sweeping cull of their videos.
Since Monday, numerous video game presenters on YouTube have been notified of strikes on their channel, as website owner Google implements a tougher new technology that auto-detects content in breach of copyright. If content is flagged by the new technology, any further revenue made from the videos will be redirected to the copyright owner and not the content creator - effectively culling the entrepreneurial business of YouTube.
However, many of the copyright owners have not asked for these changes to happen, and are now beginning to help users restore their business.
TetraNinja, a YouTube personality with about 500,000 subscribers, has said that more than 350 of his videos have been flagged. Meanwhile, GhostRobo (more than 600,000 subscribers) says more than one hundred of his videos have been affected

The beauty of Glass is that we're just barely scratching the surface of what Google's smart eyewear can, and eventually will, do. Leave it then to the brainiac undergrads at UC Berkeley's CITRIS lab to show us one possible direction that sees the wearables modded for at-home convenience. By adding an IR emitter to the side of Glass, the Berkeley team was able to demonstrate remote control of home appliances by pairing them with an Xbee 802.15.4 WiFi radio and microcontroller.
The controls for the setup are simple. A user need only look at the intended appliance to bridge a connection -- made possible by an IR-transmitted device ID -- and view toggles for control. We know what you're thinking: how does Glass select one appliance from a cluster of nearby devices? To accommodate for this hassle, the team's made it so that the heads-up display will show the user a numerical range of selectable devices and a blinking, blue LED on the intended target when pairing is successful. Users can also swap between appliances by swiping down on Glass' touchpad or allowing for a connection timeout. Yes, it's still early days for cumbersome Glass prototypes like this one, but we'd bet the farm you'll be turning on the AC with the blink of an eye before long. You can check out the demo video after the break for proof of this Glass concept.

Okay, after several months, here is finally a new version of rpix86! Here is a list of the changes in this version: - Unified codebase between the ax86 and rpix86 versions of my emulators. The Raspberry Pi -specific features are handled using compile defines, otherwise the emulation code is exactly the same in both versions.
- Implemented an option to run rpix86 without needing 4DOS.COM, by launching a game directly from the command line. This is done simply by giving the full path to the DOS exe or com file as a command line parameter to rpix86. The full path is needed because rpix86 needs to emulate the logical DOS path where the executable is started from.
- Implemented FPU (floating point unit) support. This is only implemented when running in 32-bit protected mode (using dos4gw, for example). All the games I have encountered that need FPU opcodes (for example the X-COM series games) only use FPU opcodes when in protected mode.
- Implemented experimental screen output and keyboard input code for running rpix86 in a terminal window. Note that only text mode is supported, and not all keyboard keys work as expected. This code uses the curses library for input and output.
- Implemented various game-specific fixes: REP MOVSD to Mode-X VRAM, 32-bit INSB opcode, DOS INT 21h AH=67h (set number of files) call, 486-only opcode BSWAP.
Most of my time since the last blog post has gone into the new project I am working on. You can read more about that project from my ax86 blog page. I decided to release a new version of rpix86 mostly because I unified my emulator code base, and that brought the FPU emulation also to rpix86, among with various other fixes. I also experimented a bit with running rpix86 via a terminal connection, but that code is far from finished.
It is also possible that I introduced some serious bugs into this version, so feel free to use your current version if you encounter any problems with this version. Let me know of any such problems, though, so that I can attempt to fix the issues in the next version. Thank you again for your interest in rpix86!

This is great. What happens when you bet a group of friends they can’t build a roller coaster in their backyard for under $50? They build one.
They built it almost entirely out of old forklift pallets, some wood from Home Depot, assorted nails and screws, some caster wheels and a folding seat from an old arena. It was built in just over 9 hours by three people. Once assembled they tested it with a 15lb cinder block — safety first right? The cinder block survived the ride, and by that logic, a 160lb+ person should be fine as well!
Well… they were right! To finish it up and get into the holiday spirit they also decked it out in Christmas lights and let the neighborhood kids use it all night. The total came to $49.27 from Home Depot for the wood and wheels.
Stick around after the break to see a .GIF of it in action!

[William Steptoe] is a post-doctoral research associate at University College London. This means he gets to play with some really cool hardware. His most recent project is anaugmented reality update to the Oculus Rift. This is much more than hacking a pair of cameras on the Rift though. [William] has created an entire AR/VR user interface, complete with dockable web browser screens. He started with a stock Rift, and a room decked out with a professional motion capture system. The Rift was made wireless with the addition of an ASUS Wavi and a laptop battery system. [William] found that the wireless link added no appreciable latency to the Rift. To move into the realm of augmented reality, [William] added a pair of Logitech C310 cameras. The C310 lens’ field of view was a bit narrow for what he needed, so lenses from a Genius WideCam F100 were swapped in. The Logitech cameras were stripped down to the board level, and mounted on 3D printed brackets that clip onto the Rift’s display. Shapelock was added to the mounts to allow the convergence of the cameras to be easily set.
Stereo camera calibration is a difficult and processor intensive process. Add to that multiple tracking systems (both the 6DOF head tracking on the Rift, and the video tracker built-in to the room) and you’ve got quite a difficult computational process. [William] found that he needed to use a Unity shader running on his PC’s graphics card to get the system to operate in real-time. The results are quite stunning. We didn’t have a Rift handy to view the 3D portions of [William's] video. However, the sense of presence in the room still showed through. Videos like this make us excited for the future of augmented reality applications, with the Rift, the upcoming castAR, and with other systems.

Will Xbox One and PS4 emulators hit your favorite download Websites within the next few years? Emulators have long been popular among gamers looking to relive the classic titles they enjoyed in their youth. Instead of playing Super Mario Bros. on a Nintendo console, one can go through the legally questionable yet widespread route of downloading a copy of the game and loading it with PC software that emulates the Nintendo Entertainment System. Emulation is typically limited to older games, as developing an emulator is hard work and must usually be run on hardware that's more powerful than the original console. Consoles from the NES and Super NES era have working emulators, as do newer systems such as Nintendo 64, GameCube and Wii, and the first two PlayStations. While emulator development hit a dead end with the Xbox 360 and PS3, that may change with the Xbox One and PS4, which developers are already exploring as fertile ground for emulation. The Xbox 360 and PS4 feature x86 chips, for starters, and hardware-assisted virtualization can help solve some acceleration issues. But several significant obstacles stand in the way of developers already taking a crack at it, including console builders' absolute refusal to see emulation as even remotely legal

It seems even the horsepower of Gran Turismo 6's sports cars weren't enough to propel it to the top of the UK software charts, which this week sees Call Of Duty: Ghosts retain the number one.
In fact Gran Turismo 6, the only new entry on the chart, only managed to debut at 8 no doubt due to combination of its exclusivity to PlayStation 3 and the competition from next-generation titles. Its predecessor, Gran Turismo 5, saw five times the amount of week one sales when it entered the charts three years ago.
WWE 2K14 made a surprise re-entry back at 14 thanks to retailer promotions, including a heavily advertised half price offer at GAME.

Analyst notes "far weaker than expected debuts" for big franchises, believes PS4 outsold Xbox One by 66%
The holiday season may have started with a lump of coal in the stockings of EA and Ubisoft. Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter sent a note to investors in advance of this week's November NPD US retail sales announcements, saying that software sales for the month would be down 13 percent due to "far weaker-than-expected debuts" for the heavily hyped Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed IV.
Those games' troubles are the primary reasons Pachter believes console and handheld sales were down 13 percent to $1.25 billion, but they weren't the only ones. Call of Duty: Ghosts sales were also lower than expected due to unflattering reviews, Pachter said, and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launches may have also put a damper on the software sales figures. Pachter reasoned that consumers either devoted their spending money to next-generation hardware launches, or decided to forgo purchasing current-gen versions of titles until they could find one of the supply constrained next-gen systems.
Speaking of the next-gen consoles, Pachter gave a considerable edge to Sony in the November sales race. He believes the PS4 sold 1.25 million units in the US during November, compared to 750,000 for the Xbox One. The PS4 launched November 15, while the Xbox One debuted November 22. The new arrivals also appear to have put a significant dent in the pre-existing competition, as Pachter predicted Wii U sales would be down 65 percent year-over-year, with Xbox 360 and PS3 sales down 44 percent and 28 percent, respectively.
The NPD Group is expected to announce its November US retail sales data Thursday evening.

Pent-up demand for new hardware will lead to quicker adoption, says publisher's EMEA executive director
[h=3]Ubisoft[/h]ubisoft.com
The game industry will cross the generational gap to the PS4 and Xbox One quicker than normal, according to Ubisoft's EMEA executive director Alain Corre. In the wake of the next-gen system launches, he acknowledged to Edge that the longer than usual console cycle enjoyed by the Xbox 360 and PS3 has given the systems massive installed bases that will continue to receive games for some time.
"However, the long wait also means that gamers are really excited about the arrival of the new consoles, and we think that there will be a faster overall transition than in the past," Corre said. "The number of next-gen games we're releasing in the coming months, like Watch Dogs and The Crew, should help convince players to make the switch and ensure that the vast majority of gamers have moved to the new consoles within a few years."
Corre added that while the initial launch line-ups for the systems haven't exactly made the most of the machines' potential, next-gen games that stand clearly apart from their current-gen counterparts aren't far off.
"When it comes to mastering new technology, there's always a learning curve," Corre said. "Nevertheless the level of quality of our next-gen games at launch is really high. It's proof that developers like Ubisoft have already been working toward this technology for a long time. As we become more familiar with the machines and listen to players' feedback, we'll see the truly next-gen games start to stand out. With the bar already placed so high, we can only imagine how much richer, more immersive, more social, more interactive and more beautiful the next crop of games on PS4 and Xbox [One] will be."

First off i would like to thank DealExtreme.com for sending me the 248 FC Games Classic Video Game System w/ 2 Wired Gamepads to review, this is a handheld that as a great amount of games to try and even games like casino games which if you like those type of games you will want to save money and you can by using casino promo code for Jackpotjoy which will help your money go much further and increase your chances of making more.
Lets have a look at the system (sadly my camera is knackered so im using stock photos)
Firstly heres the box
Next up the Contents, although the sample i recieved had black controllers which they have now changed to.
Back of the box showing the full list of games
Menu Screen/In Game
Heres the Specs
- Compatible Model: TV
- Built-in 248 non-repeat FC games: please refer to the picture
- Power Supply: 220V
- TV Output: PAL / NTSC
- Packing List:
- 1 x Video game system
- 2 x Wired game controllers c(70cm-cable)
- 1 x 220V Charger (2-flat-pin plug/80cm-cable)
- 1 x AV cable (80cm)
Onto The Review:
The 248 FC Games Classic Video Game System w/ 2 Wired Gamepads is as it sounds a console that supports Nes/Famicom games and has 248 built in.
The console itself is selling for $18.99 or £12 in my money which is very cheap and thats with free shipping, how on earth do they make it pay.
On opening the box the console itself had 2 joypad ports on the front, a power and rest button on top and power and av ports on the back, there was no memory card slots to put your own games on, for those of us who like our faves all together it would have been great but remembering the price, you cant expect miracles.
The console itself was very light and you can tell its made to keep costs down, so you get what you pay for but its the games what matter.
Unlike the photos above the 248 FC Games Classic Video Game System now comes with plain Black joypads rather than the ones in the photo, the joypads are very light and are similiar to a PSone joypad. The joypads do what they need to do without having to be special in anyway.
The Consoles power lead has a 2 pin connection on it so you will need an adapter but most of us have one these days so not a biggy, finally the display is via a yellow and red av leads so just mono sound this time.
The amount of games is impressive but remember these are Famicom/Nes Games and to me most of them are early releases, the games are unique theres no duplication but there are some Hacked/Pirate games amongst them.
With any console that is of the 4/8/16 bit era you can play on todays Tvs but the graphics look way better on an old CRT tv. I tried a good 80 games and all bar one loaded, some of the games like Pacman, Mario, Bomberman, Double Dragon, Contra are major classics and theres a lot of obscure games ive never played before, there is no battery backup on games and you cant save states but unless your a retro gaming freak your just going to give each one a bit of playtime so although save states would have been nice its not a necessity.
The joypads even though are cheaply made do the job as needed although one gripe i do have is that the lead is really short, you cant sit too far away from the TV.
My 3 year old son loved the console to bits as he was trying new games galore and with the games coming from an era where more were simpler like Pacman and Tetris he found it enjoyable.
So Good Bad or Ugly
The 248 FC Games Classic Video Game System is a system thats aimed at the budget end of the market and whilst the build quality of the console and joypads is cheap and upgrading the console with roms cant be done, what it does have it its favour is the 248 games already on the console, many of the games are major retro classics and many like me you may have never heard of or played, theres also no savestate so that will kill the longevity of games like RPGs but i see this system as an ideal first console for children of the age of 3,4,5 and especially to those of us who were playing games in the Atari and Nes Eras and for the price of £12/$18.99 delivered if your into these type of games your going to get a lot out of them.
So even though it has low build quality it does have the sheer amount of games and to me its a thumbsup, would i pay the money for this, yes for sure but you would have to be a fan of retro to admire this.

If an image from prolific bean-spiller @evleaks pans out, it looks like Razer is set to join the iPhone gamepad brigade with the Kazuyo. We've already seen the Moga Ace Power and Logitech's Powershell for the iPhone 5 or 5s so far, thanks to Apple's inclusion of a controller API for iOS 7. Razer's offering appears to have a similar case and button layout as the latter model, but also brings a unique tilting ability, judging by the image above. There's no other details, of course, because it's still just a leak -- so keep the salt handy until you see a real product.

Nowadays, if you want to ‘check in with Foursquare’ at your local laundromat, deli, or gas station, you need to take out your phone and manually ’check in with Foursquare’. It’s like we’re living in the stone age. iBeacon, Apple’s NFC competitor that operates over Bluetooth 4.0 changes all that. iBeacon can automatically notify both iOS and Android users of where they are. [Kevin Townsend] over at Adafruit came up with a tutorial that turns a Raspberry Pi into an iBeacon, perfect for telling you that you’re somewhere in the proximity of a Raspberry Pi, and some other cool stuff too.
The iBeacon protocol is actually very simple. Basically, the only thing the iBeacon transmits is a 128-bit company/entity value, and an optional major and minor values (to differentiate between locations and nodes within locations, respectively). After plugging in a Bluetooth 4.0 USB dongle into the Pi, it’s a simple matter of installing BlueZ and entering the iBeacon data.
iBeacon by itself doesn’t really do anything – the heavy lifting of figuring out exactly which Panera Bread or Starbucks you’re in is left to the apps on your phone. If you’re a mobile developer, though, this is a great way to set up a very useful testing rig.

Lumus is a heads up display (HUD) manufacturer better known for its military-grade products, some of which have been deployed in US Air Force F-16 and A-10 helmets. Its latest effort, the DK-40 dev kit, is an attempt to steer its tech toward the consumer market. And yes, it looks a lot like Google Glass. But instead of projecting notifications on the outskirts of your peripheral vision, the entire right lens of Lumus' Android-powered eyewear is a 640 x 480 see-through display. The DK-40 also includes a motion sensor and 5-megapixel camera necessary for a true AR experience. Though its sleek design is more socially acceptable than its fighter pilot headgear, Lumus doesn't intend to mass-produce anything just yet. The glasses are still deep in development stages, harboring only 1-2 hours worth of battery life. Instead, the company simply wants to promote the adoption of its lens technology. The entire monocular kit and SDK will debut at CES 2014, but won't ship to OEMs and "select developers" until the end of Q1 2014.

Christmas dinner in a tin. That’s apparently what GAME could shortly be selling in its stores.
It’s called the Christmas Tinner and consists of nine layers of processed festive food, as demonstrated in the picture below. Apparently the chain has actually trialled this product in its Basingstoke store and is considering a national rollout “if there is enough gamer demand”.
How said “demand” will be measured remains unspecified. Although we do know that it will cost £1.99 per tin if it comes to fruition.
The justification for this lunacy? According to GAME: “According to new research almost half (43 per cent) of the nation’s gamers plan to spend the majority of Christmas day playing on their new consoles and games.
“That’s why retailer GAME has developed the Christmas Tinner, enabling gamers to get their teeth into GAME play all day without having to miss out on a mouthful of their favourite food or do the washing-up.”
A “without sprouts” variant is available for those who dislike brussel sprouts. But like the idea of an entire Christmas dinner in a tin.
“This Christmas is set to be an epic one for gaming, especially as households all over the UK wake up to a new PS4 or Xbox One console under the Christmas tree,” Game Retail marketing director Ailsa McKnight said.
“And for those who can’t wait to get stuck into their latest goodies, the Christmas Tinner is our gifting solution combining the best of both worlds: so gamers can feast on the latest releases and the finest food at the same time.”
Christmas Tinner creator Chris Godfrey, a design student, added: “I tried to ensure when creating the menu that all the flavours complemented one another and it was designed so that gamers can eat one layer at a time, starting with breakfast and finishing off with Christmas Pudding – the perfect Christmas Day meal without any of the fuss.”
To be fair, we’d definitely give it a go.

Locomotion tech works in tandem with Oculus Rift and Wii remote to immerse players in Liberty City
Austrian firm Cyberith has shown off its virtual reality tech the Virtualizer, enabling players to walk through the world of Grand Theft Auto IV.
The locomotion device, recently featured in our Develop 100 profiling Europe's top game start-ups, works in tandem with VR tech such as the Oculus Rift and the Wii Remote and reflects the players real-world movement in-game.
This is achieved by integrated sensors for motion detection, which allows players to move, run, jump, crouch and strafe in-game.

There might come a time when you'll wait for a drone instead of a truck for yourAmazon or UPS package, while worrying about tech-savvy thieves instead of armed robbers. Let's just hope no ne'er-do-well uses Samy Kamkar's SkyJack for evil, because the software can worm its way into flying machines to take over their brains. Kamkar, who hacks things presumably to spread security awareness, loaded the offending code onto a Raspberry Pi-equipped Parrot AR.Drone 2.0. The result is a flying contraption that's capable of seeking out other drones' wireless signals and forcefully severing their connection from their true owners. Worse, the software works just as well installed on a land-based computer.
Curious folks can check out Kamkar's video after the break for a quick demo, but those tech-savvy enough can get a deeper understanding through SkyJack's source code. The system can only hijack drones with Parrot's WiFi MAC addresses at this point, but here's hoping companies take note and make future delivery drones more secure just in case.
