How many buttons does a gaming mouse need? If you ask ROCCAT -- for today at least -- the answer is three. Evidently not happy with the current choice of tri-buttoned peripherals, it's launching a new "Lua" model at both Computex and E3. As well as the aforementioned triplet of clickable appendages, it houses a Pro Optic R2 sensor which will let you jack the DPI setting from 250 up to 2000 and back again on the hop, battlefield, or wherever you may be. The ambidextrous device launches internationally sometime in late July early August, with a $30 price-tag.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says E3 remains as important as ever, despite fresh criticism over its relevancy from some corners of the industry.
Event organisers the ESA was forced to defend E3 last monthfollowing criticism of its continued focus on the struggling traditional boxed games market. The trade body pointed to the appearance of Zynga and GREE as proof that the show is as relevant as it has ever been.
And now Guillemot has backed the annual showcase, telling MCV that the expo is important in judging critical, consumer and trade reaction. And that Ubisoft is planning to reveal some major new titles at its press conference tomorrow.
"E3 is really a time where we get reactions from lots of people. And unveil some things to generate hype," he said.
"It is big event for us because a lot of people are logging in to find out whatąs going on in the industry and find out what's new.
"It is going to be a very strong E3. Which will be nice. We are doing products on many platforms, including mobile, tablet and also free-to-play games for PC, as well as what we expect to come this year, which is Wii U. It should be good if the reactions are as we expect."

The global games industry no longer needs to rely on Christmas, says Take-Two.
CEO Strauss Zelnick believes that customers will come out to buy the best games no matter what time of the year it is.
And he ought to know. Take-Two's Rockstar label launched its last four titles - GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire and Max Payne around May. Meanwhile, the publisher's 2K label is happy to release games all year round. Spec Ops: The Line arrives later this month – a similar release window to last year's Duke Nukem Forever.
Zelnick said: "Our industry started decades ago as a toy business and it made sense then to focus on the holiday season. Today, we're a grown-up entertainment business and perhaps with the exception of the height of summer, the calendar is much less important than the quality of the title.
"We believe that if you give consumers what they want, they'll come out for it year-round. This approach has served us well and is reflected in the success of titles like Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, BioShock and Civilization V."
Zelnick's words follows fresh calls from retailers for a more spread-out release schedule. Stores are concerned that the increased focus on Q4 is making the boxed games market unsustainable.
Take-Two announced last month that BioShock: Infinite will no longer be coming in Q4 and was push back until Feburary.

As a final project in their 3rd year of the University of Technology Sydney, [James] and a few classmates put together this interesting game. Called BrainTap, it is described as a game targeted at the baby boomers focusing on fine motor skills and memory.
The game plays similar to the common game “simon”. The box lights up a series of LEDs in a pattern, then you have to repeat the pattern back with the corresponding buttons in the glove. There is vibration feedback in the glove as well as the lights and sounds you see in the video. Though they do mention arthritis in their title, we don’t think our grandmas with arthritis would enjoy those hand motions much. We, however, might spend hours doing this instead of more important things.
We particularly like the visual construction of the game box. The case was designed in CAD, 3d printed, then sanded smooth and painted with automotive paint to get that perfect finish. Great job guys.

Activision has confirmed the confidential deal and made the following additional statement, suggesting it has indeed paid-out to Zampella and West:"The company does not believe that the incremental one-time charges related to the settlement will result in a material impact on its GAAP or non-GAAP earnings per share outlook for the current quarter or the calendar year, due to stronger-than-expected operating performance in the current quarter."ORIGINAL STORY: Sacked Infinity Ward founders Jason West and Vince Zampella have settled their lawsuit with former employers Activision out of court."All parties have reached a settlement in the dispute, the terms of which are strictly confidential," read the official statement, as Tweeted by Los Angeles Times reporter Ben Fritz."Jason West is in court and smiling," read a subsequent post.A separate lawsuit launched against Activision by 40 former Infinity Ward employees over unpaid bonuses and royalties was also wrapped up behind closed doors. We'll have more on this as the story develops, but it looks like we'll never know how much money changed hands.West and Zampella were seeking over $1 billion in damages for unfair dismissal and breach of contract following their high-profile firing in March 2010. A counter-complaint from Activision also demanded cash, with the publisher accusing the pair of insubordination and sabotage. For more on what was shaping up to be a hugely dramatic courtroom showdown, refer back to our in-depth report published last week.

PowerA's best known as a company that crafts controllers and accessories for console gaming systems, but at E3 this year the firm is announcing its first foray into the mobile space: a Bluetooth controller for Android. Called the MOGA, its got dual analog sticks and shoulder buttons, along with a fold-out, spring-loaded center portion that holds phones of all sizes in place while you get your game on -- not unlikeGametel's controller we saw at CES. The front of the device is glossy black plastic, while the rear is swathed in rubber, with ribbed portions on the grips to keep it firmly in hand.

With the backing of Activision, Disney, EA, Microsoft, Namco Bandai, Sony, Take-Two and Ubisoft, ISFE says its new pan-Euro data is the industry’s best.
The Interactive Software Federation of Europe unveiled GameTrack at a breakfast briefing in London this week, attended by key publisher representatives including EA’s Europe chief Jens Uwe Intat.
GameTrack covers all forms of video gaming in a single source survey, attempting to offer what ISFE calls “an unprecedented understanding of how individuals play games and acquire content”.
ISFE is best known as the organisation that developed PEGI age ratings, which will soon be made the legal de facto age ratings in the UK.
GameTrack surveys 6,700 respodents per quarter in each of the major European territories. Each contributor answers questions about games on PCs and laptops, consoles, portable games devices, smartphones, tablets and even smart TVs. All types of games are included.
MCV is this week exclusively publishing some of the results, which show the balance between how much time is spent playing some games versus how much is spent on them.

While ISFE boasts an impressive survey of European gamers, NPD is for the first time sharing its data on non-new, non-boxed video game sales in the UK via MCV.
Its latest report in the Q4 2011 spending on areas like pre-owned, rental, subscription and digital games reveals just how big – or, indeed, small – these categories are.
Some are proving to be as strong as ever, while others, such as social network games, are smaller than some may think.

Once again the issue around calculating digital sales data towards the industry’s charts and research data has become a talking point.
Last week MCV discussed the suggestion that Blizzard’s Diablo III would have topped the charts if digital sales from Blizzard’s Battle.net store had been included in retail charts.
GfK Chart-Track shares the industry’s concerns about the current fragmentation of market sales when considering digital sales of packaged goods, and applauds UKIE’s commitment to bringing publishers/IP holders together in an attempt to address this issue. But this can never be a substitute for fast and integrated weekly reporting.
READY WHEN YOU ARE
We are ready to include digital sales like those of Diablo III, but the ball is now firmly in the games industry’s court to recognise the need for measuring the complete market and supply their data.
We already have the technology to incorporate those sales seamlessly into the charts and the flexibility to report the sales in the format that the industry requires. For example, the chart number for Diablo III could be a mixture of digital and physical, with the split between the two only revealed to the publisher/developer/IP holder and the retailers that sold the product.
However, it would be wrong to single out one publisher/developer/IP holder – why should they take the plunge if their peers simply sit on the fence, keeping their own numbers internal?
So what we say to digital retailers is that if they have the capability of supplying data, then we are ready to accept it.
Only with a critical mass of digital retailers would we envisage including digital sales alongside packaged goods. In the meantime, all digital sales can be measured and reported back to each digital retailer with a guarantee of confidentiality, through various solutions including our online secure data warehouse. Many of the detailed market analysis reports that we currently produce for traditional retail are just as relevant for digital retailers, and we can tailor reports to specific requirements.
DIGITAL RETAIL?ACTION
The current UK video games research project Chart-Track runs monitors sales through traditional retail channels for packaged goods, and over 35 different retail propositions including the High Street, the supermarkets and the internet. So the current sales charts are a measure for one part of the entire video game sales universe.
This project in the UK has been in existence for decades. And perhaps because of this, it is somewhat taken for granted that market intelligence of the packaged goods sector is so accurate, so meaningful and therefore so useful.
But with the growth of the digital sector the games industry risks losing its best research and PR tool – a chart that paints a true and accurate picture of the overall video games market.
Digital retailers have the power to support the games industry and the industry would welcome their involvement.

We got a look at N-Control's Avenger Controller Elite just last month, and the company is rounding out the hardware's May release with a full-court press on GameStop. The retailer's online store is now selling both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 variants of the controller assist as straightforward, bundle-free $50 units. Company creator David Kotkin also tells us that the add-ons have had an extremely warm reception so far: although the Elite lineup had an unsung launch at GameStop on May 29th, it sold out on day one and is still in tight supply, with Xbox 360 examples currently on backorder as we write this. N-Control may have had a tough road in the past several months, but it looks as though that perseverance has paid off.

37 per cent of the UK population has played a game in the last 12 months.
That's according to Ian Bramley, senior director of Ipsos Media, who today shared some key insights into the reports his firm is now compiling for the Interactive Software Federation of Europe.
This morning, the ISFE unveiled the new GameTrack data it has commissions Ipsos to produce.
The reports claim to be the most detailed and comprehensive view of the market, including every platform and kind of game out there.
Including the stat in our headline, Bramley offered up example insights from what the GameTrack research is discovering, including:
- In the UK, 37 per cent played games in the last 12 months. That's 21m people.
- In France, it's 50 per cent of the population. Or 29m.
- In Germany, it's 40 per cent, or 31m.
- Almost 90 per cent of 11-year-olds across Europe play video games in some form.
- Just over 40 per cent of 6- to 10-year-olds re playing apps. The margin drops considerably through the age demographic, down to just over over 10 per cent for consumers aged 45 or older.
- Almost 25 per cent of 11- to 14-year-olds in UK play games on social networks.
- In UK, only five per cent of people say they play games on apps, online AND packaged. In the UK there is a huge contingent that only plays packaged goods.
- 68 per cent of UK kids play packaged goods games. 65 per cent play online games. 43 per cent play apps. 31 per cent play all three. So the child gaming audience is much more converged than the five per cent average detailed above.
- In the UK, 25 per cent of the population plays games on PC or Mac. 25 per cent play on console, too. Smartphones and iPods, although ISFE didn't give the figures, are ahead of dedicated games portables and tablets by a big margin.
- But in the UK in terms of value, the majority of revenue - likely around 80 per cent - is driven by packaged goods. So while alternative channels are popular, they aren't necessarily profitable.
- Pre-owned is 16 per cent of the UK market. It's 18 per cent in France.
- Half of the games played in the UK during Q1 2012 were apps.
- Angry Birds was the UK's most popular game in Q1 2012. It had 10 per cent of the total market.
- 20 per cent of the total time dedicated to playing games in France is dedicated to social games.

This morning the ISFE released the new GameTrack data, which reveals that Angry Birds was the UK’s most popular game in Q1 2012, with ten per cent of the total market.
The reports, which ISFE commissioned Ipsos to produce, reveal some interesting statistics about the UK’s gaming habits, including the fact that 37 per cent of the UK population played games within the last 12 months, totalling 21 million people. The reports claim that half of all games played in the UK during Q1 2012 were apps.
It was also revealed that in the UK, 25 per cent of the population plays games on PC or Mac. 68 per cent of UK kids play packaged goods games. 65 per cent play online games. 43 per cent play apps. 31 per cent play all three.
The reports claim to be the most detailed and comprehensive view of the market, including every platform and kind of game out there. It shows that although the app market is growing, there is still a huge percentage of the population that play packaged and online PC games.

Hi all been very busy lately, that old real life thing gets in the way, i was that busy i forgot to celebrate our 8th birthday of DCEmu UK, DCEmu UK was the first site to combine both the best of the Homebrew and Emulation scenes and that of the Commercial scenes and new releases of games and hardware for every console along the way.
Thankfully even 8 years later we are still going strong, sadly the homebrew scene isnt the madness we seen at the height of the PSP, DS and Dreamcast Scenes but like everything it will return, the double barrel of IOS and Android has tempted many homebrew coders to release their software on there and hope to get some cash back for it, you cant blame them but hopefully a new console will be cracked and all those people and many more will return once more.
Looking around the homebrew scene you see many of the biggest sites now took over by big commercial companies, whilst they present a better site and more polished news it does seem to kill the scenes, add to that many of the big names in both homebrew and emulation have gone to the wall, even sites i used to have wars with (although it was rather fun) have disapeared.
Consoles now with their online updates have made it harder for us to crack, with the exception of IOS and Android, the rest seem very stagnant.
In other news DCEmu UK has a new much faster server which should keep things ticking along much nicer, sorry to those who were waiting for the DNS to update to recieve the new server, thanks to Martin for keeping the site and server going and protecting us from those who seek to harm the site.
Thanks to all those who visit and all those over the last 8 years who have contributed to the network, heres to a long future and hopefully some great homebrew on all new consoles

Rockstar executives and development staff will not be in attendance at E3 in any capacity next week, CVG has learned.
<figure style="margin: 0px 0px 20px 20px; padding: 0px; border: 0px currentColor; width: 300px; color: rgb(68, 68, 68); text-transform: none; line-height: 21px; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; clear: both; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: inherit; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; word-spacing: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; float: right; display: block; white-space: normal; position: relative; orphans: 2; widows: 2; font-size-adjust: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px;" class="article-image article-image-alt article-image-300"></figure>Off the back of intensified speculation that Rockstar will bring to light its Grand Theft Auto V project, CVG has heard from trusted sources that the company "has no plans for E3".It means that hands-on demonstrations of Rockstar games will not take place, and it is suspected - though not confirmed - that projects such as GTA V and Agent may not be revealed at any of the platform holders' E3 press conferences.
Rockstar does not, by custom, attend E3 to demonstrate its upcoming games.
This year, however, it was suspected that the company would buck trends to exhibit Grand Theft Auto V - a game with such gravitas among the games market that the reveal of its logo, in October, sent the industry into a craze.
Moments after GTA V was officially announced, shares in parent company Take-Two rocketed, with analysts expecting the game would sell in excess of 20 million copies.

MCV asks journalists which titles they’re most looking forward to getting their hands on in Los Angeles...
Dave Cook - Games Editor, NowGamer
I’m most looking forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which sounds a bit naff, but I’m genuinely interested to see what the time-skip to the near future will mean in terms of reinvigorating the CoD template. It could give Treyarch a licence to really shake up the formula and make the franchise fresh in the eyes of many disillusioned gamers who have since strayed.
Michael Gapper - News and Features Editor, Xbox World/PSM3/ Nintendo Gamer
I’m most looking forward to playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown,Assassin’s Creed III, Dishonored, and BioShock Infinite. And I’m curious about what Playground has done with Forza.
Johnny Cullen - UK News Editor, VG247
My must-watch game is definitely The Last of Us. We haven’t seen a great deal of it since last year, but the promise of a brand new IP from a brand new team at Naughty Dog, excites me greatly.
Simon Miller – Editor-At-Large, NowGamer
I would say a new Gears of War but as that’s not likely, I want to see what Nintendo are doing with Mario on Wii U.
Chris Scullion – Online Editor, Nintendo Gamer
Pikmin 3 on Wii U.
Guy Cocker – Editor, GameSpot UK
The Last Guardian. Assuming it hasn’t been cancelled.
Gavin Murphy – Video Producer, Future Games Division
I’m looking forward to seeing Dishonoured because the man in the trailer is on my ‘thinspiration’ wall.
Tim Edwards - Editor, PC Gamer
THQ’s Company of Heroes 2. Already, it is looking superb.

Job listing for network engineer reveals multiplayer FPS
Infinity Ward is working on an unnamed multiplayer shooter for next generation consoles, according to a job listing.
The studio behind the monolithic Call of Duty series is looking for a senior network engineer with an interest in first person shooters for the unnanounced game.
As the trial begins for Infinity Ward's Jason West and Vince Zampella, seeking what may amount to a billion in damages against their former employers at Activision, it may be too much to assume the game is part of the Modern Warfare franchise, but it does seem to be the most likely possibility.
The job requires experience working with current generation consoles, and "a reputation for clean, efficient, and well-tested code."
Proficiency in C++ and a B.S. in computer science, mathematics, or equvialent work experience are also required.
