This version does not have that many changes as I have still been focusing on the zerox86 version. Actually I think the biggest change in this version is that I changed the automatic 4DOS.COM download to fetch the program from my web pages, as it seems that the JP Software site is not working properly at the moment. This is just to help new users install and use rpix86.
The only other noteworthy change is that I fixed the garbled graphics problems in the CNC milling software NSW.EXE. The cause of this problem was quite interesting. The game goes to VGA 640x480 16-color mode (for which the BIOS graphics mode byte value is 0x12), but then almost immediately sets the BIOS graphics mode byte to 0x06 using the following code:
1993:00003E63 1E push ds1993:00003E64 33C0 xor ax,ax1993:00003E66 8ED8 mov ds,ax1993:00003E68 BB4904 mov bx,0449 ; DS:BX = 0:0x0449 = BIOS graphics mode byte address1993:00003E6B 8A27 mov ah,[bx] ; Get current BIOS graphics mode byte into AH1993:00003E6D B006 mov al,06 ; AL = 0x06 (CGA 640x200 2-color graphics mode byte)1993:00003E6F 8807 mov [bx],al ; Set current BIOS graphics mode byte from AL1993:00003E71 1F pop dsI have used the BIOS graphics mode byte in a C language switch statement to easily determine which screen blitting function to use, as I have separate functions for each color depth. When the program changed the BIOS graphics mode byte, it made rpix86 switch to using the 2-color screen copy routine, even though the actual graphics mode in use was still the 16-color VGA mode.I fixed this by coding a small hack into the 0x06 case statement, so that it checks also the vertical screen size, and if that is 480 lines, uses the 16-color VGA 640x480 screen copy routine. This seemed to fix all the symptoms, but this is a bit of a nasty hack in the code.
I just got a new project that I need to spend my free time on, so it looks like it will take some more time before I have time to look into the problem games that you have reported. Sorry about that, but sometimes things like this happen. I will get back to improving both rpix86 and zerox86 as soon as I get the other project finished.

If you spend a bulk of your waking hours typing away at the computer, you know the value of a solid dependable keyboard. That's especially true for software developers like Jeff Atwood, who tap away at keys for a living. Dissatisfied with the current state of keyboards, he decided to take matters into his own hands and contacted Weyman Kwong of WASD Keyboards in early 2012 to come up with his vision of the perfect one. More than a year later, and the CODE keyboard was born as the result of that collaboration. Atwood describes it as the "only simple, clean, beautiful backlit mechanical keyboard [he has] ever found."
Not only are the keys raised and tactile, they're equipped with Cherry MX Clear mechanical switches, which provide satisfying actuation feedback with none of that annoying clicking noise. There's also customizable LED backlighting, 6-key USB rollover, navigation keys that double as multimedia controls, a detachable micro USB cable and easily modifiable keys for those who like custom layouts. Weighing in at 2.42 pounds, the CODE promises to be a solid piece of kit, complete with rubber coated feet and a sturdy steel plate mount. Of course, all of that comes at a cost -- both the 104-key and 87-key model retails for a hefty $149.99 each. Still, for those who truly love the feel and functionality of a good keyboard, the CODE sounds like it's worth the premium.

EA’s FIFA 14 has been crowned as the internet global buzz champion of Gamescom 2014.
New research from Way to Blue collating Twitter, blog and online news mentions, saw EA’s football title grab a massive 41 per cent share of the online noise throughout the German trade show.
It was followed by fellow EA title Battlefield 4 (19 per cent) which forced Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts into third (12 per cent).
Perhaps the biggest surprise, however, was Konami’s PES 2014 which came in fourth winning a seven per cent share.
“It will be interesting to see if the Battlefield 4 momentum carries into launch week,” Way to Blue’s Adam Merrett stated. “For the first time, could we see a Battlefield release sell more units than a Call of Duty release?
“FIFA 14 completely stormed ahead of the pack during Gamescom 2013, but it’s nice to see such a large share of voice for PES 2014. We will be keeping a close eye on these 14 titles up until launch to see who maintains their buzz into their launch windows.”

Free copy of FIFA 14 with Xbox One preorder is just one deal of many
EA's Peter Moore has taken some time to explain the strategy behind his company's Gamescom presentation, which struck some as favoring Microsoft over Sony.
The competition this console generation is expected to be tougher than ever between the rival Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with both platforms hitting shelves at almost the same time.
With this in mind, the revelation that all European pre-orders of the Xbox One would receive a free copy of FIFA 14 was something of a shock.
In an interview with GamesIndustry International, Moore explained this move wasn't because his company was betting on the Xbox One over the PlayStation 4, it was just about timing and that there were many deals in place with both companies.
“We have relationships with both companies that go back many many years, so I think that what you saw yesterday was, just from a phasing perspective, you saw a little bit more of the Microsoft stuff,” he said.

August 30th, 2013, 00:03 Posted By: wraggster
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has delivered his verdict over the PS4 and Xbox One software launch line-ups.
And this is it: “Meh”.
In fact, he reckons that the Wii U has a better line-up this Christmas.
“It’s all about the games. The competitive systems have announced their launch line-ups. I’m allowed to say ‘Meh,’” Fils-Aime told IGN. “I look at our line-up of titles and I feel good about our line-up.
“We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong. In addition to great titles like Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, I feel very good about our line-up, and I feel very good about the value proposition we’re putting out there for the consumer.”
Fils-Aime also argued that Wii U has its own tech tricks to stand up against the innovations seen in rival products. He reckons that it may not seem that way to some simply because of the way Nintendo chooses to market its own devices.
“We’ve got cloud technology that we’re delivering with Wii U. Nintendo TVii is all cloud-based technology,” he added. “But the difference is, we don’t talk about the tech. We talk about the experience. We make sure that the consumer has fun with the game experiences that we provide.
“And so I think as you compare and contrast Nintendo with other players in the space, for us it’s about games, about the fun, about the entertainment value, and not about the tech.”

Yesterday saw the publication of two stories focusing on two different Syrian men thought to be core members of the Syrian Electronic Army, the hacking group that took credit for recent break-ins that compromised the Web sites of The New York Times, The Washington Post and other media outlets. Working with a source who says he hacked into the SEA's servers this year, Vice.com profiles a fairly high-profile SEA member who uses the nickname "ThePro" and outs him as a young man named Hatem Deeb. Separately, Brian Krebs managed to get hold of the SQL database for the SEA's Web site after it was allegedly hacked this year, and follows a trail of clues back to one of two administrators of the SEA, which leads to another Syrian guy — a Web developer named Mohammed Osman, a.k.a. Mohamed Abd AlKarem.

Apple may please fans of diminutive hardware with the Mac Mini, but John Leake of the RetroMacCast has created something that can satisfy fans of miniature and classic hardware: a tiny replica of the original Macintosh. The aptly-dubbed Mini Mac sits at 1/3 the size of the original, is crafted from a PVC board and crams a Raspberry Piinside. In order for the board to fit however, Leake had to solder wires instead of relying on connectors, trim the SD card and snip part of the USB cable. When it comes to visuals, the box packs a 3.5-inch display, which receives 512 x 384 output from the Pi. As for connectivity, the package supports a wireless keyboards and mice via Bluetooth, plus it exposes two USB ports, an HDMI slot and an ethernet jack. Not only does this slice of the 1980s have the looks to match the era, but it also features some of the old-fashioned functionality. Sure, floppies won't fit into its faux drive slot, but it runs System 6 via the open source Mini vMac emulator. Head past the break to catch a video of the model or visit the source for build shots.
